π 1) Chishtiya Order
Four great Sufi saints from Afghanistan came to India:
β¨ Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (d. 1233 β Ajmer)
β¨ Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki (d. 1236 β Delhi)
β¨ Nizamuddin Auliya (d. 1335 β Delhi)
β¨ Baba Fariduddin Ganjshakar (d. 1265 β now in Pakistan)
All of them belonged to the Chishtiya Order.
π Spread of Chishtiya Order
Under Nizamuddin Auliya, this order spread from Delhi to all parts of India, even moving southwards during the time of Muhammad bin Tughlaq.
Famous shrines include:
π Ajmer Sharif β in Rajasthan
π Nizamuddin Dargah β in Delhi
π€ Harmony with Hindu Bhakti Saints
Some Chishti Sufis:
β interacted peacefully with Hindu saints
β even used Hindi language
β sang devotional songs
But later, orthodox Ulema, with support from rulers, demanded:
βBack to Shariatβ βοΈ
Even though Sufis and Ulema had differences, Shariat remained a common bond between them. Eventually, both groups cooperated to gain favor from rulers π°.
