🌍 Current Regional Situation vis-à-vis Pakistan
The current situation in the region is complex, especially for Islamabad.
🇨🇳 Pak–China Strategic Cooperation Underway
China and Pakistan are working together through the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This project includes about 62 billion dollars of Chinese investment and financing. The goal is to shift cooperation from only military matters to economic development.

🇮🇳 Pakistan–India Military Standoff
On 14 February 2019, a car-bomb attack took place in Pulwama (Indian-Occupied Kashmir), killing 46 people, most of them Indian army personnel. India blamed Pakistan for being involved in the attack.
On 26 February 2019, Indian fighter jets entered Pakistani airspace and claimed to have destroyed a “terrorist training camp” in Balakot, saying over 300 terrorists were killed. Later, India could not provide evidence to support these claims.
Pakistan strongly rejected the allegations and, the next day, shot down two Indian fighter jets in retaliation.
Since then, tensions have continued to rise, creating a real danger of war in South Asia. Meanwhile, India is failing to suppress the Kashmiri resistance (intifada). Indian repression is becoming more violent — but still unsuccessful.

🇦🇫 The Afghan Conundrum
The longest war in US history seems to be ending with the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan. To support this process, the United States has been holding talks with the Taliban since late 2018.
However, the Afghan situation is not simple. There are many local and international groups with their own interests. At the same time, regional countries are competing for influence inside Afghanistan, which may become dangerous, especially after the US leaves.
These developments may destabilize the entire region, and Pakistan may be directly affected.

🇮🇷 An Insecure Iran
The entry of Saudi Arabia into CPEC is likely to make Iran feel insecure, because Tehran and Riyadh are long-standing rivals and are already in conflict in Yemen.
Iran also has strong political influence in Kabul. Former Taliban chief Mullah Mansoor was reportedly killed while travelling back from Iran.
Meanwhile, President Trump re-imposed sanctions on Iran, and India officially took over Chabahar Port last year. Because of this, India and Iran appear to be developing trade routes that bypass Pakistan to reach Afghanistan and the Central Asian Republics (CARs).
So, the rapidly changing regional environment is creating serious challenges for Islamabad. Pakistan needs to act carefully and wisely in this situation.

🤝 Indo–US Strategic Ties
After 2007, the Indo–US strategic partnership strengthened. Pakistan was “de-hyphenated” from India and later criticized publicly by President Trump on social media. The US and India are cooperating in technology transfer and large-scale arms deals, leading to the military buildup of India.

🇷🇺 Russia and the Changing Regional Apparatus
A visible change has taken place in Russia’s policy toward India. Russia is now:
✔ selling military hardware to Pakistan
✔ conducting joint military exercises with Pakistan
These developments indicate improving Pakistan–Russia relations.
