Nuclear Program of Pakistan ☢️
1) Overview 🌍
The South Asian region received immediate international attention when India and Pakistan conducted nuclear tests in May 1998. The main concern of the global community was the introduction of nuclear weapons into an already tense relationship between India and Pakistan.
Pakistan, as a responsible nuclear weapons state, developed its nuclear capability solely to deter India’s hostile intentions. Its Credible Minimum Deterrence (CMD) doctrine is aimed at maintaining strategic balance in the region.
However, since the beginning, Pakistan’s nuclear program has faced severe criticism and propaganda regarding its nature, intentions, and safety. From being labelled as developing an “Islamic Bomb” to accusations of rapidly expanding its nuclear capability, Pakistan has continuously tried to address international concerns by strengthening its nuclear controls and policies.
Despite these efforts — and maintaining restraint and responsibility — criticism and propaganda still continue.
A Famous Quote 🗣️
“We (Pakistan) will eat grass, even go hungry, but we will get one of our own (atom bomb)… We have no other choice!”
